In the taming of the shrew one of the main ideas “Honesty and Deception in relationships” Is used as an example of a relationship is behind the scenes. In “What happens in vegas” the same main idea is used for the same example. The similarities of this main idea between the movie and the book are nearly identical.

In taming of the shrew Petruchio and Katherine’s relationship is filled with honesty and deception. Before Petruchio became deceptive he really love Katherine even though she was not interested. We found out as we read the book that, he would get more deceptive as the relationship went past the fathers eyes. He would twist her arm and put is hand over her mouth to keep the truth from getting out. This fulfilled his honesty within this relationship and kept the father from knowing about Katherine’s hate for Petruchio. Petruchio’s deceptive nature towards Katherine’s father eventually lead to a positive. Katherine finally realized what she had and gave in to Petruchio, admitting and becoming the most loyal wife by the time the book was over.

In what happens in Vegas the story is different. The two lovers in the movie see each other in Vegas and end up having a great night together. Little did they know that they got married during the night of the party. Joy ends up giving Jack a quarter that gives him 3 million dollars. Joy reminds Jack that they are married. This all results in court were the judge tells them that they have to stay married for a couple months before they can split the money. Joy gets deceptive, throwing parties and inviting girls over in order to make Jack do something that isn’t supposed to happen in a marriage so Joy could have all the money to herself. Jack counter attacks with the same approach. Jack could not stay honest with Joy, who really loved him, however he received all the money anyway. The two make up in the end because honestly Jack also loved Joy.

In both the movie the taming of the shrew and what happens in Vegas the two guys try to be deceptive to get what they want. Jack acts proper in order to try and get people to think that he is the perfect husband. Petruchio forces his way into Katherine’s fathers mind by silencing Katherine until she gives in. Also, Both of the women in the book and the movie have different attitudes once both tales end. Katherine, aggressive and mean at first to Petruchio, ends up the most loyal wife in the whole book. Joy who was just trying to snag 1.5 million dollars away from Jack ultimately fell in love with him.

In both the movie “Vegas” ad the book “Shrew” you can clearly see the honesty and deception. What stood out to me was the fact that in both the movie and the book someone was deceptive to get what they want. However, in a relationship I don’t think its best to be deceptive. Honesty is also important within a relationship, and in either book the relationship doesn’t seem to be honest between the two partners until the end of “Shrew” and “Vegas”.
